Welcome to CIOS 105! Below is an outline for this course. You will notice that this outline has dates and is numbered Modules 1 through 7. This represents only one possible progression through this course. Depending on your skills, you might want to explore other Modules not necessarily in order. For example, you could go to Module 4: “What is a computer network?” first and then go back to Module 1: “What is a computer?” It’s up to you how you progress through this course and we encourage you to do it your own way. This course introduces computer literacy based on national IC3 standards. It is an entry requirement course in many association and bachelor degree programs at the University of Alaska. Topics include computer concepts, file management, basic editing and formatting functions in common software applications, basic troubleshooting for computer hardware and software, current electronic communication tools, Internet research strategies, and network terminology and components. Students complete the University of Alaska Southeast registration form, and send it to the instructor. Once received, students are provided with access to the course web site. Upon completion of all 7 units, students will earn 3 UofA credits (CIOS 105) as well as a semester of high school credit.Introduction to Computer Literacy CIOS 105
