Module 1:  Activity

It is our goal to help you prepare for future college & jobs by setting goals and meeting deadlines. We want to create a group sense of safe haven.

Think of times when you tried to tell a friend something you were concerned about and yet when you shared it, instead of helping you, that friend got mad and walked away.  Your intention was not to make them mad, yet that's what happened.  What could you have done differently?  Sometimes, others will have an idea already in their head, and there's nothing you can do to help them see things from your point of view; however, many times you might rephrase something differently, and you'll see you can get a totally different reaction.

For instance, when we want to provide ways to improve on a project, you might phrase your words like this:

-   I  like the fact that....

-   I wonder if...

-   The next step might be...

Communication is a tricky thing; it depends on your background and experiences to how you perceive what is being said or done.   Please keep this in mind as you work through the assignments and post replies on the forum.  Think about how it might sound in another way before posting.

Spelling and punctuation is also always important.  This is a college class, and you are expected to spell check your work before posting.

Look at the videos on this web site, "What's Your Story?"  Which do you think is the best and why?

  Assignment #3: Posting Etiquette

Set up your profile on the forum.

Post three ways you feel students can support each other in their comments and suggestions in the online forum.

In your opinion. what are some specific ways you can support others online to feel safe and encouraged to state their views?

Reminder:

All posts should be appropriate for public viewing.  Be sure and provide feedback to others who post.  Find 1 thing you liked and 1 thing you feel they could improve on.  Be professional and remember that words may be taken wrong, if you're not careful on how you say things.
